Bright Little Labs

Bright Little Labs is a kids' media company. We make all sorts of 360 media (books, games, cartoons, toys, live experiences) that promote 21st century skills, like critical thinking, computer science and creativity. We launched on Kickstarter in 2015, and partnered with Warner Media in 2018, but we’re still a small (and mighty!) team. We’re passionate about the power of storytelling and value diverse identities and experiences, and we’re proud to bring a different sort of story to kids all over the world.

Following the success of our flagship IP, Agent Asha and the Children’s Spy Agency, we are now hiring a development producer to help us to grow our slate, develop our home-grown IP, and get involved in an exciting new accelerator for creatives. 2022 is going to big and we’d love for you to be part of it.

The Role: Development Producer

We are looking for an experienced creative wizard to help us develop IP, from existing concepts and products in development, to entirely new ideas. You’ll be working in close collaboration with our company founder to move our slate forward with drive and creative vision, and passion.

What you’ll do

  • Support the development and expansion of BLL’s slate of original IP.
    • Research and develop creative children’s IP; collaborate with producers, creative directors, technical directors, animators, scriptwriters and artists to develop concepts.
    • Oversee development and creation of development materials, including: decks, treatments, concept art, budgets and other relevant sales materials.
    • Run regular development meetings and check-ins.
  • Find and pitch new IP with a creative point of view and an eye towards marketplace viability and development path.
    • Guide development, crafting and delivering constructive notes on pitches, outlines, scripts, and cuts. Where necessary, attend shoots, table reads, casting, production, and post sessions of our IP in production and development.
  • Build strong relationships with talent, agents, studios and commissioners.

About you

  • You’ll be fully aligned with our mission and purpose, and this will be the thread that runs through all your work.
  • You love a good story, engaging characters and compelling worlds. You’re creative and passionate about all genres of children’s media.
  • You know the media landscape is changing beyond recognition and understand that our users expect their favourite characters to exist wherever they are - whether it’s on mobile phone, library shelf or in a supermarket. The potential of 360 media excites you.
  • You have proven skills in a development role in children’s media - or if you have a different experience that’s as relevant, tell us about it.
  • You have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, you explore your own unconscious bias and you’re committed to ongoing learning around diversity and how to tell diverse, inclusive stories.
  • You believe in the impact of children’s media and are excited about the opportunities it presents.
  • You know the children’s media landscape well, including current releases, talent, and buyers
  • You have experience in crafting or evaluating pitches at a production company or studio.
  • You’re an effective communicator and pitcher
  • You’re goal oriented. You know if your ideas have worked because you’ve measured them.
  • You are able to thrive in an innovative, entrepreneurial environment.

You're cool with Google docs, and you’re familiar with industry software. If you can’t use it yourself, you know someone who has:

  • Graphic skills - photoshop and/or illustrator.
  • Animation skills - Adobe After Effects.
  • 3d modelling skills - 3ds max, Cinema 4D and/or SketchUp.
